Nell’attuale clima politico, le vite delle persone queer e trans sono diventate oggetto di dibattito pubblico.
In questa performance esaminiamo gli effetti di questi dibattiti sulle nostre vite personali, in quanto persone queer e trans, cercando al contempo delle risposte nelle storie degli emarginati di un tempo. Persone che, nella loro epoca, furono trasformate in figure malvagie e demonizzate. Persone che conoscono il modo in cui la paura collettiva si rivolge contro le minoranze sociali che si discostano dai modelli considerati normali.
Dal rogo torna a levarsi il fumo, ancora una volta.

Caro Ruoff e Steef Kersbergen sono un duo di artisti della performance con base nei Paesi Bassi, impegnato nella creazione di opere intime e stimolanti che esplorano i temi dell’identità e della trasformazione queer e trans*.
Il loro lavoro fonde poeticamente l’esperienza di Caro nella drammaturgia e nella scrittura ritmica e multilingue con la ricerca di Steef sulla performance di lunga durata, sulla creazione di immagini alternative e sul cinema basato sulla performance.
Insieme, mirano a spingere il pubblico a confrontarsi con la complessità dell’identità, con il processo del divenire e con il potere della vulnerabilità condivisa.
What drives a person to build a pyre? How many people do you need to kill a witch? Have you succumbed to the witches-psychosis? In the current political climate, the lives of queer- and trans people have become a public debate. In this performance we examine the effects of these debates on our personal lives as queer and trans individuals, while searching for answers in stories of outcasts from long ago. People who faced villainization in their own time. Those who know how communal fear turns towards social minorities that diverge from the expected patterns. There is smoke coming from the pyre, once again. Will you be the one to light it?

Caro Ruoff and Steef Kersbergen are a Netherlands-based performance art duo dedicated to creating intimate and thought-provoking works that explore themes of queer and trans* identity and transformation. Their work poetically merges Caro's expertise in playwriting and rhythmic, multi-lingual text with Steef's focus on durational performance, alternative image-making, and performance-based film. Together they aim to challenge audiences to engage with the complexities of identity, the process of becoming, and the power of shared vulnerability.
