ANDATA e RITORNO è una performance pensata per la danza, un evolversi di quadri
musicali che si sviluppano attraverso una forma ciclica, dove ogni sezione musicale
ritorna, ma sempre con una nuova sfumatura. Il viaggio, in questo contesto, non è lineare, ma un continuo “andare e tornare”, dove ciò che sembra finire si ripresenta, trasformato e arricchito.
La musica di ANDATA e RITORNO segue una struttura regolare (A - B - A1 - C - A2 - D...): le sezioni musicali A si ripetono, ma ad ogni ritorno mutano leggermente, come se il
viaggio stesso, pur ripetendosi, evolvesse. Le sezioni più lente, rarefatte e sospese, si alternano a quelle più dense e frenetiche. Questo ciclo sonoro è caratterizzato anche dal ritorno di loop e suoni elaborati attraverso le pedaliere multieffetto.
ANDATA e RITORNO diventa così una riflessione sulla ciclicità del proprio percorso
personale. L'alternarsi di momenti di tensione e momenti di risoluzione, ci ricorda che il viaggio non è mai uguale, ma contraddistinto da una continua evoluzione.
BIO
Christian Thoma, compositore, oboista e clarinettista basso, si avvicina alla musica classica a 6 anni studiando il pianoforte. In età adolescenziale suona il basso in vari gruppi rock e studia oboe e composizione all’Istituto Musicale di Aosta fino a diplomarsi in oboe presso il Conservatorio di Alessandria e in Jazz presso il Conservatorio di Torino. Dopo aver svolto attività concertistica nell'ambito della musica classica come solista, in formazioni da camera e in orchestra, si avvicina alla "musica di confine" che maggiormente lo rappresenta e con la quale può esprimersi sia come esecutore in generi poco praticati con i suoi strumenti, sia come compositore.
Le sue musiche sono state eseguite in importanti rassegne in Europa, Sud America e Asia e incise in diversi CD.
Ha lavorato, tra gli altri, con Stefano Battaglia, William Parker, Butch Morris, Enrico Rava, Aldo Romano, Dave Liebman, Harris Lambrakis, Fabrizio Bosso, Carlo Actis Dato, Stefano Benni, Antonio Catania, Enrico Ghezzi...
ANDATA e RITORNO is a performance conceived for dance, unfolding as a series of musical tableaux that develop through a cyclical form, where each musical section returns, but always with a new nuance. In this context, the journey is not linear, but a continuous “going and returning,” where what seems to end reappears, transformed and enriched.
The music of ANDATA e RITORNO follows a regular structure (A – B – A1 – C – A2 – D…): the A sections repeat, but with each return they change slightly, as if the journey itself, though recurring, evolves. Slower, sparse, and suspended sections alternate with denser, more frenetic passages. This sonic cycle is also characterized by the recurrence of loops and sounds processed through multi-effect pedals.
ANDATA e RITORNO becomes a reflection on the cyclicality of one’s personal journey. The alternation of moments of tension and moments of resolution reminds us that the journey is never the same, but marked by continuous evolution.
BIO
Christian Thoma, composer, oboist, and bass clarinetist, began studying classical music at the age of six, starting with piano. In his adolescence, he played bass in various rock bands and studied oboe and composition at the Istituto Musicale di Aosta, later graduating in oboe from the Conservatory of Alessandria and in Jazz from the Conservatory of Turin. After performing extensively in classical music as a soloist, in chamber ensembles, and in orchestras, he turned to “border music,” which best represents him and allows him to express himself both as a performer in less common genres with his instruments and as a composer.
His music has been performed at major festivals in Europe, South America, and Asia, and recorded on several CDs. He has collaborated with, among others, Stefano Battaglia, William Parker, Butch Morris, Enrico Rava, Aldo Romano, Dave Liebman, Harris Lambrakis, Fabrizio Bosso, Carlo Actis Dato, Stefano Benni, Antonio Catania, and Enrico Ghezzi.
