Che cos’è un’autobiografia? Quali sono le traiettorie che consentono di attraversare – nel tempo scenico di un dispositivo – una produzione artistica ventennale? Quali i dati reali, quali le finzioni. Cosa c’è di vero e cosa viene falsato dalla memoria e dalla condizione performativa.
Tra performance e auto-documentario, l’unico dato reale rimane il corpo dell’artista, ostinatamente in scena, unico generatore di un proprio vocabolario, di ogni immaginario. Deposito organico.
Così Giovanna Velardi espone sé e la propria storia artistica in frammenti di costrutti coreografici che nel flusso di una nuova narrazione mancano e falsano i propri significati.
Un tunnel nel privato, nel sotterraneo della memoria autoriale.
BIO
Giovanna Velardi, coreografa e interprete siciliana, è co-direttrice artistica dell’ass. PinDoc — sostenuta da MiC e Regione Siciliana — che promuove i suoi lavori e quelli di numerosi altri coreografi nell’ambito della danza contemporanea. Nel suo ruolo, cura e sviluppa progetti dedicati alla danza a 360 gradi in Italia e in Europa, spaziando dalla creazione coreografica alla divulgazione e valorizzazione del settore. Svolge inoltre attività di formazione come docente presso il Liceo Coreutico Regina Margherita di Palermo.
Nel 2023 è stato pubblicato «Il cuore articolare» di Vincenza Di Vita (Mimesis/Eterotopie), volume arricchito dalle testimonianze sul metodo di Giovanna Velardi e contenente il manifesto con le relative declinazioni teoriche e pratiche redatto dalla stessa coreografa.

What is an autobiography? What trajectories make it possible to traverse – within the theatrical time and space of a device – a twenty-year artistic practice? Which are the real facts, and which are fiction? What is true, and what is distorted by memory and by the performative condition?
Between performance and self-documentary, the only real element that remains is the artist’s body, stubbornly present on stage, the sole generator of its own vocabulary and of every imaginary world. An organic repository.
Thus, Giovanna Velardi exposes herself and her artistic history through fragments of choreographic constructions which, within the flow of a new narrative, omit and distort their original meanings.
A tunnel into the private sphere, into the underground layers of the author’s memory.
BIO
Giovanna Velardi, a Sicilian choreographer and performer, is co-artistic director of the association PinDoc — supported by the Italian Ministry of Culture (MiC) and the Sicilian Region — which promotes her work as well as that of numerous other contemporary choreographers. In this role, she curates and develops projects dedicated to dance in all its forms, both in Italy and across Europe, ranging from choreographic creation to the dissemination and promotion of the field. She also works in education as a teacher at the Regina Margherita Dance High School in Palermo.
In 2023, «Il cuore articolare» by Vincenza Di Vita (Mimesis/Eterotopie) was published, a volume enriched by testimonies on Giovanna Velardi’s method and containing the manifesto, together with its theoretical and practical developments, written by the choreographer herself.
