Ispirato all’enso, il cerchio del Buddhismo Zen, che simboleggia sia l’universo sia il gesto artistico perfetto, Mandalaaffascina lo spettatore con il suo ritmo ipnotico sulla potente musica di Michael Gordon. Evolvendo in un cerchio di luce, immersa in una danza circolare simile a una trance meditativa, Sara Orselli attraversa diverse fasi più o meno esaltate, incarnando talvolta la vitalità, talvolta la divinità, talvolta l’aria, talvolta la terra.
Un cuore che batte propaga la vita in un corpo che a sua volta ondula e volteggia.
Il solo è la forma prediletta di Carolyn Carlson dagli anni ’70, sia per sé stessa sia per i danzatori che la ispirano profondamente. Per lei costituisce la forma essenziale dell’opera coreografica. È un momento di collegamento diretto con la danza, una possibilità di ritorno a sé stessi e una ricerca della tonalità ultima del gesto unico e puro. In un mondo sempre più loquace e individualista, che soffre della nostra incapacità di esprimere la nostra profonda umanità, la danza, e il solo in particolare, offrono una comunicazione visiva tramite l’emozione e la percezione, senza il filtro della parola.

Carolyn Carlson è una danzatrice, coreografa, pittrice e poetessa franco-americana. Erede dei precetti del coreografo americano Alwin Nikolais, si trasferisce in Francia negli anni ’70 e la sua prima creazione, Rituel pour un rêve mort, presentata al Festival di Avignone nel 1972, è un manifesto poetico che da allora definisce il suo lavoro: una danza certamente orientata verso la filosofia e la spiritualità. Al termine “coreografia” preferisce il termine “poesia visiva”.
Ha creato oltre 150 opere, molte delle quali sono pagine fondamentali della storia della danza, e ha avuto un ruolo chiave nell’emergere della danza contemporanea francese e italiana con il GRTOP all’Opéra di Parigi e il Teatrodanza alla Fenice.
Nel 2006 il suo lavoro è stato insignito del primo Leone d’Oro mai attribuito a un coreografo dalla Biennale di Venezia.
Oltre alle creazioni coreografiche, scrive poesie e dipinge; le sue raccolte poetiche sono state più volte pubblicate e la sua opera grafica è oggi riconosciuta ed esposta in musei e gallerie d’arte in Francia.
Dal 2014, accompagnata da danzatori fedeli al suo universo, la coreografa porta avanti il suo percorso creativo con la Carolyn Carlson Company.

Moving within a circle of light, caught in a round as in a meditative trance, Sara Orselli passes through different phases, more or less exalted, embodying vitality at times, divinity at others, air at some moments, and earth at others.

The solo has been Carolyn Carlson’s preferred form since the 1970s, both for herself and for the dancers who deeply inspire her. For her, it constitutes the essential form of choreographic work. It is a moment of direct connection with dance, a possibility of returning to oneself, and a search for the ultimate tone of the unique and pure gesture. In an increasingly talkative and individualistic world, suffering from our inability to express our deep humanity, dance, and the solo in particular, offer visual communication through emotion and perception, without the mediation of words.

Carolyn Carlson is a French-American dancer, choreographer, painter and poet. Heir to the precepts of American choreographer Alwin Nikolais, she moved to France in the 70s and her first creation, Rituel pour un rêve mort, at the Festival d'Avignon in 1972, is a poetic manifesto that has defined her work ever since: a dance that is certainly turned towards philosophy and spirituality. To the term "choreography", she prefers the term "visual poetry".
She has created more than 150 pieces, many of which are major pages in the history of dance, and has played a key role in the emergence of French and Italian contemporary dances with the GRTOP at the Paris Opera and the Teatrodanza at La Fenice.
In 2006, her work was crowned with the first Golden Lion ever awarded to a choreographer by the Venice Biennale.
In addition to her choreographic creations, she writes poems and paints; her collections of poems have been published several times and her graphic work is also recognized today and exhibited in museums and art galleries in France.
Since 2014, accompanied by dancers faithful to her universe, the choreographer has continued her creative approach with the Carolyn Carlson Company.
